Market History

Over 25 years of supplying the local community with quality fresh
produce.

Stephen Shearman was the entrepreneur who brought the Farmers' market concept   to Usk . He started with a small gathering in Llanishen Village Hall in 1998 and went on to run regular markets in Usk and Abergavenny.

The Usk Farmers' Market has grown from strength to strength over the years, with a loyal following of customers. The market  has been meeting every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month since those humble beginnings, offering a wide variety of local produce and artisan products. For the majority of that time it has been held in The Memorial Hall.

Several of the stall holders have been with the Usk Farmers' market since its very early days - Penrhiw Organic Farms meat and Tom Llewellin's chickens have been long-standing staples.

The market has shown remarkable resilience, serving the community throughout the Covid pandemic and continues to thrive, providing the community with their exceptional produce.

New Beginnings...

With the retirement of the Market Manager in 2023, a group of regular stallholders tookover the running of the market.

As the market headed into a new phase, a fresh identity was needed and it didn't have to look far. Naomi Clarke, is  a freelance illustrator, art tutor and designer from Cardiff creating work with companies and organisations that are passionate about community, wellbeing and the environment.

Naomi and her family have shopped at the market for many years, With her artistic, creative flair and technical know how she was the perfect choice to design the new logo and all the market's design needs.
